Steve's Story

It all started with a KIT and a KID. In 2007, our founder Steve Liberati was working for his father’s exterminating business, but his real passion was nutrition and fitness. After getting to know some young teen athletes on his inner-city route, he was moved to invite them to workout with him in a local park. From the conditions they were living in, Steve knew their recreational options were limited and potentially dangerous.

Before long, Steve had a pack of kids he trained regularly with whatever equipment he could fit in the trunk of his car. A firm believer in Paleo nutrition, Steve wanted to provide a nutritious lunch for his young athletes that they could eat at school. So he packaged beef jerky, nuts and berries to stay fresh in their backpack. And our flagship product the PaleoKit was born.

Knowing he had stumbled upon a solution for crossfitters and fitness warriors looking for portable options, Steve started selling his PaleoKits online. Fourteen years and over 75 products later, athletes, outdoor enthusiasts and health conscience people around the globe have made Steve’s their favorite on-the-go clean eating options.

Much has changed since those early park days, but our mission is still the same. Every day after school, about 20 young athletes from the hard streets of Camden City, NJ pour into “Steve’s Club Camden,” the gym at Steve’s. They lift weights, jump on boxes, climb ropes and do pull ups--as a way to pull out of the perils of street life. Some of the older teens even work next door in the warehouse where Steve’s are made, packed and shipped.

Although the company has grown, one thing will never change. Helping at-risk youth realize their potential through fitness, nutrition and leadership skills is the driving force behind Steve’s. First off, we haven't found any other similar products. There are several "grass fed" beef jerky and meat bars on the market but ours is different for three main reasons.

1. NO sugar, sweeteners or "weird" ingredients. Other brands use sugar, sweeteners and weird ingredients to soften their jerky that way it does not chew like shoe leather. Luckily for you, we figured out a way to make amazing beef jerky without any sugar or sweeteners. How? Don't ask. We make our jerky in small batches by hand while other jerky companies use high tech machines and automation to tumble, pulverize and process their meat to lower their labor costs and increase efficiencies. 3. Our beef is actually 100% grass fed and finished while others often claim "grass fed" only to finish the cattle on grain for the last few months of their lives. This process of grain finishing is enough to negatively alter the biological makeup of the animal, causing a more inflammatory product with fewer vitamins and nutrients.
